The Shippen at Cantlop is the home and studio of Mary Elliott BA Hons Fine Art. For over twenty years she has been partner at Twenty Twenty Gallery. This website tracks the progress of Mary's artwork as she makes the transition from gallerist to artist. There will also be occasional events, workshops and guest artists.

Welcome to new visitors and subscribers! I launched my first set of sketches, drawings and paintings, on this website earlier this year and the response was fantastic. Thank you to all of you who bought something!

The second collection of drawings and paintings, many of which record the fields across the Cound Brook, below Berrington and which face Cantlop, is now available. These fields have wonderful names: Upper Foxholes, Big Grinders, Little Grinders, Warings Ley, Cox's Dale and Black Ditch. There are plans for these fields to become a solar site, so this year's arable crops may be the last.

If you would like me to keep you posted when new collections or workshops are available, please subscribe to my newsletter.

The Garden

When we moved into the Shippen, the garden was a grassed area bordered by a traditional mixed hedge. It was a blank canvas. Wildegoose Nursery planned and planted a wonderful mix of perennials that have matured into a haven for birds and insects.

Seasonal sketches of the garden will be for sale in the Garden Collection and Available Work.

Cantlop

Cantlop is the geographic centre of Shropshire. The name was first recorded in the Domesday Book as Cantelop and could have been named by Norman knights, from chante lou (sing wolf). These days it is a slightly untidy group of houses, converted barns and farms, and is pleasantly unremarkable. Ancient field names indicate the character of the site or the owners registration.
